Provost Search Open Forums

Florida State University’s Provost Search Committee has identified four top candidates for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Candidate visits will begin next Monday and conclude the following week. While scheduling constraints will limit the time on campus for the candidates, open forums have been scheduled to provide opportunities to meet the candidates and submit feedback.

All forums will be in the Augustus B. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center, Room 208 (Map). The schedule is as follows:

April 27, 2015 First organizational meeting with Search Advisory Committee members to discuss search process, timeline, position description and advertising strategy.
SP&A consultant meets with key constituents to learn about the challenges and opportunities facing the new Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

May 2015 SP&A consultant and Search Advisory Committee finalize position description and text for advertisement.

Late June 2015
Mid-August 2015
Florida State University and/or SP&A place ads in appropriate publications to include:

  • Chronicle of Higher Education
  • Other online, academic and position specific advertising venues.

Mid-September Progress meeting with Search Advisory Committee to discuss status of the search and review initial slate of candidates.
Search Advisory Committee provides feedback to SP&A consultant regarding quality of candidate pool.

Late September SP&A conducts preliminary candidate interviews and recruits additional candidates.

Early October Progress meeting with Search Advisory Committee to evaluate candidates.
Committee identifies 8 – 12 leading candidates.

Mid-October Search Advisory Committee conducts first-round interviews with leading candidates.
Search Advisory Committee identifies 3 – 4 finalist candidates.

Late October SP&A initiates in-depth reference and background checks on all finalist candidates.
Finalists are invited and scheduled for on-campus interviews.

Early November On-campus interviews for all finalist candidates.

Mid-November Search Advisory Committee collects feedback from campus constituents and prepares a final report for the President to review.
SP&A completes additional reference and background checks.

Mid/Late November SP&A consultant assists with contract negotiations.
President approves contract and offers position to lead candidate.
Search closes and placement announced.
